Some women truly did have it all. Audrey Hepburn had style and grace was a star of Hollywood’s Golden Age, a humanitarian, a mother, a style icon, and an overall beautiful human being. It’s been almost 70 years since her breakout role as Princess Anne in Roman Holiday, but Audrey continues to inspire women around the world with her timeless elegance. She has certainly inspired the design process for us at That’s Me The Label by Margo Mott. Read on to find out why we love the legendary actress and how to create an Audrey Hepburn style outfit.

Style and Grace For The Ages

Audrey was always known for her simple yet sophisticated style. Her iconic outfits have gone down in film and fashion history: the strapless floral ball gown in Sabrina; the beatnik-inspired turtleneck, trousers, and loafers in Funny Face; and of course, the slinky black backless cocktail dress and pearl necklace from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. All of these years later and it’s still considered the most famous LBD in history. Modern fashionistas still love to recreate Audrey’s looks when choosing outfits for special occasions or everyday wear.

Being one of Hollywood’s biggest stars meant Audrey was able to make some serious connections in the fashion world. She had an especially close relationship with the couture house Givenchy. Audrey was a constant muse to the legendary designer Hubert de Givenchy, who designed some of her characters’ most well-known dresses. If you’re lucky you may be able to see some of the stunning custom-made pieces in real life, as they are sometimes displayed during fashion exhibitions.

Another reason we love Audrey Hepburn’s style and grace is that she proved it’s not just about the clothes. True beauty comes from the inside. Audrey was a kind and graceful soul, and that inner beauty only made her clothes look even more stylish. When Audrey wasn’t filming blockbuster hits that are still regularly screened to this day, she was making the world a better place. When her career kicked off in the 1950s Audrey began to work with UNICEF. In the 80s as a Goodwill Ambassador for the organization, she spent her final years working directly with underprivileged children around the world.

That’s Me the Label regularly draws inspiration from Ms. Hepburn’s chic wardrobe. Our boat neck round collar top is reminiscent of Audrey’s off-duty style in the 1960s. Pair yours with a knee-length pencil skirt, oversized sunglasses, and an updo for a wonderfully retro everyday outfit. Our full flared skirt will also give off serious Roman Holiday vibes when styled with a short-sleeve button-up blouse, a cute silk neck scarf, and a neat bun.

From the full skirts and smart blouses she wore in the 1950s to the sleek mod-inspired shift dresses of the 1960s, Audrey Hepburn will always be a muse during the That’s Me design process. She encapsulated a classic style that works well for any age. Although Audrey’s most memorable outfits were clearly the height of the fashion du jour, they remain stylish to this day.

That’s why the Label “That’s Me” came into fruition. The idea came to me 30 years ago. I wanted to create a look of individual styles that can work with each other, so that colours too, can blend. I work with five colours only because throughout our many years, all colours come and go because of trends.

I don’t follow trends, however the ones that stay around and what I work with, are your simple black, white, navy, red and mocha.
